Gautrain Expansion Gets R120bn Boost from Gauteng Government

JOHANNESBURG – The Gauteng provincial government has announced plans to invest R120 billion to significantly expand the Gautrain rail network into several new areas across the province.

The proposed expansion will extend the Gautrain network to key regions including Soweto via Fourways, Mamelodi, Atteridgeville, Lanseria, and Springs. Gauteng officials emphasized that this major infrastructure project aims to stimulate economic growth and create employment opportunities for local communities.

During the announcement, the provincial government highlighted the crucial role this expansion would play in addressing unemployment by generating substantial job opportunities throughout the construction and operational phases.

With this significant investment, the Gautrain is set to become more accessible, providing reliable and efficient transportation to residents previously underserved by public transport. The initiative is expected to boost connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and enhance the overall quality of public transport within Gauteng province.
