Port Harcourt Airport Undergoes Major Upgrades to Enhance Passenger Experience

The Rivers State Government has initiated a comprehensive infrastructure overhaul at Port Harcourt International Airport (PHIA) to elevate its operational efficiency and align it with international aviation standards. This ambitious project encompasses several key developments:

Access Road Expansion: The main approach to the airport is being widened to accommodate increased traffic, ensuring smoother vehicular movement for passengers and visitors.

Internal Road Rehabilitation: Roadways within the airport premises are undergoing significant repairs to improve navigation and safety.

Dedicated Drop-Off Zone: A new drop-off area at the Domestic Terminal Zone (DTZ) is under construction to streamline passenger arrivals and departures.

Toll Gate Remodeling: The toll gate is being redesigned to enhance efficiency and reduce congestion.

Car Park Upgrades: Both day and overnight parking facilities are being modernized, with these enhancements nearing completion.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has emphasized the state’s dedication to transforming PHIA into a world-class airport, aiming to boost the economic profile of Rivers State and Nigeria at large. The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) assures that these developments are being executed with minimal disruption to current operations, promising a more efficient and traveler-friendly environment upon completion.

These upgrades are poised to position Port Harcourt as a pivotal travel hub in the South-South region, fostering increased connectivity and economic growth.
